Feldfreunde - an association of foodies and farmers
Nowadays, most of us have become alienated from food production. Very few of us have any idea where food comes from or how farming works. This is not only regrettable, but also a problem for sustainable agriculture! We all impact on how our food is produced, but we do not use our influence. We thus unwittingly foster structures and practices that are harmful to our environment and to ourselves. This often happens out of ignorance, due to time constraints or because of a lack of tangible links to the farming sector.
People who love Liechtenstein and who strive for a sustainable food system, the Feldfreunde, are therefore committed to highlighting good food: epicurean delights, without waste and without overexploiting our resources. Only sustainable nutrition creates the conditions that make possible sustainable agriculture. Sustainable nutrition is also the prerequisite for children to grow up healthy and learn well.
The Feldfreunde offerings aim at giving everybody – children, young people and their families in particular – the opportunity to experience and actively participate in farming. The Feldfreunde are a place where everyone can meet who appreciates good food and wants to bring about a change towards agroecological farming. These include not only consumers, but also farmers, local organisations, local communities and politicians, as well as businesses such as grocery shops, bakeries or restaurants.
We are planning a wide range of events: real farming experiences on our Bionetz farms, excursions for schools and day-care centres or cooking courses that demonstrate how to use regional and seasonal ingredients. In addition, we provide information on agroecological farming and food production and give advice for everyone, answering questions such as “How can I use pulses as a meat alternative?”. Our engagement builds on the scientific concepts of nutritional ecology, agroecology and research findings that show how the environmental impacts of agriculture are shaped by our eating, shopping and cooking habits and the value chains in which we participate.
We aim to be a venue for discussion and instigation of change. That is why the Feldfreunde are also a space to develop and implement new concepts of agroecological farming. A place that brings together people from all walks of life and their collective experiences is ideal to bring about change. Good food is for everyone! That is why our aim is to be a network that supports and promotes the creation and marketing of agroecological products and services. By doing so, we create added value for agriculture and society at large.
